Lutheran Church in America. : Division for World Mission and Ecumenism. Correspondence 1962-1987.

The files were collected by John M. Mangum. Mangum served under several titles as staff involved with planning for the Board of World Missions of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) from 1963-1972 and director for planning of the Division for World Mission and Ecumenism (DWME) of the LCA from 1972-1987. Mangum also served as editor of the DWME publication World Encounter from 1963-1972. The records were transferred as correspondence files, although a few contain printed items with no correspondence included. Boxes 1 and 2 contain general correspondence filed only by the initial of the correspondent. Boxes 3-5 contain correspondence arranged alphabetically by subject or single correspondent name. Some files contain correspondence with or about only one individual, while others contain correspondence about only one subject. A further distinction is noted, with the word nationals following a country name, when correspondence is with nationals rather than expatriate missionaries. Many files contain articles or stories written about mission work and probably relate more to Mangum's work as editor (see LCA 28/12) than as director for planning. Mangum carried these files over to later years, however, and added planning files to them when he was no longer editor.
